Cavalry Bible Fellowship Church realized that their current facility was not ideally suited to their goals of outreach to the Coopersburg community and growing their congregation. Our task was to see the church with new eyes - We centered the renovations and additions on improving the experience of a first time visitor, making the facility accessible to people who don’t feel comfortable in a traditional church environment, and improving teaching spaces to advance the Church’s educational ministry.

The goal of the project was to create an easily accessible and convenient service center for students to interface with various University Services, as well as touchdown space for University Services staff. The Point is in one of the lower levels of a highrise building on campus, which presented several design challenges. We used expanses of luminous panels and glass to help create a feeling of spaciousness and openness in an area of relatively low ceiling heights. Making The Point highly visible was another challenge. We responded to this by designing an orange acoustical felt accent wall with a corner-wrapping graphic sign that is visible from the entry doors.

Helm Building Renovation
Info

Completed: Phased, 2020

Location: Princeton, NJ

MEP Engineer: Seeler Smith and Associates

General Contractor: Irwin & Leighton

The Helm building is a four-story office building at the periphery of Princeton University’s campus. The project was conceived as a modest renovation that modified existing office layouts to accommodate University Services, the Office of Admission, the Office of the Registar, and Undergraduate Financial Aid and Student Employment. The initial idea was to reuse existing furniture and to retain as many partitions as possible. As our space planning effort progressed, it became clear that this approach wouldn’t meet the needs of the departments moving to the building. Despite an accelerated project schedule, we pulled together a more ambitious design that focused on collaborative spaces and shared amenities. Throughout the evolution of the project, we worked to foster consensus among a variety of stakeholders ranging from executive project sponsors to future occupants.

This 6,200 SF office suite was renovated for the Office of the Dean for Research. The floor plan flips workstations and shared spaces to the windows and allows daylight to filter through to the interior offices. The entry features an illuminated ceiling cove and rift sawn white oak wall panels. Infrastructure was carefully organized and felt clad pendant lights were utilized to increase acoustic comfort in the open work areas.
