JBA is a full-service design firm based in Philadelphia. Founded in 2018 by Joshua Janisak and Robert Biddle, we serve institutional, commercial, cultural, and residential clients. The firm has broad experience across project types, including historic restoration, adaptive re-use, interior design & furniture specification, hospitality, and master planning. Our work ranges from building a specialized AI Innovation Hub for Microsoft to restoring a historic timber bank barn for a baroque chamber ensemble. JBA is committed to providing the highest level of service to our clients.
The founding principals’ four decades of senior-level experience bring a depth of expertise typically associated with much larger firms. Unlike those larger firms, the principals remain directly involved in every phase of every project: managing zoning & preconstruction tasks, conceptual design, technical documentation, coordination, and construction. Meanwhile, our efficiency and low overhead translate into reasonable fees. This is the competitive advantage offered by a small, nimble practice.
The solutions we arrive at are a synthesis of the client’s needs, functional & code requisites, budget, and aesthetics. We take pride in our ability to create beauty in the midst of reality, one of an Architect’s most important charges.
ABOUT THE PRINCIPALS
Joshua Janisak, RA, brings twenty two years of leadership and knowledge to every project. A graduate of Drexel University (B.Arch, cum laude), he is an expert in material technologies and hands-on craftsmanship. He has led significant projects, such as the new Chestnut Hill Friends Meetinghouse and James Turrell Skyspace at as well as the addition of a new period-accurate collegate gothic wing the historic Princeton Ivy Club.
Robert Biddle, RA, is an architect with eighteen years of practice. Also a Drexel University alumnus, Robert focuses on space planning and conceptual design. His background includes leading the design of early learning environments in public libraries, renovations to the entire portfolio of registrar teaching spaces at Princeton University, and design for ReAnimator Coffee's numerous Philadelphia cafes.
